Problems with modems indicate that Windows Telphony (TAPI) system has configured a modem that is not present, or there are simply no modems configured at all. If a modem is configured to be on a different com port than it actually is on, this category of problem will be generated.
Problem with dial-up networking. Any problems that occur in this category are related to dial-up networking sub-system.
Problems exist with your dial-up networking phone book. If you have installed dial-up networking, then this indicates that some entries may be incomplete or missing or that the phone book files may be corrupted.
Problems exist with your communications port that may indicate that you have installed a device that is no longer present or that a modem is installed on a device that is not present or cannot be accessed. Windows 95 will automatically determine your communications port for you upon installation.
Problems involving networking settings can be caused by attempting to connect to a network resource using a protocol that the remote network doesn't support. Other problems can be created when a protocol is misconfigured. For example, in dial-up networking, the most common protocol problem is misassigned internet addresses (IP address for short) or the DNS servers, or gateway address. Contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance in configuring your dial-up networking protocols.
Problems with dial-up networking devices usually indicate that the configured remote access dial-up adapter is not configured properly. If a modem has been specified as the dial-up adapter in the phonebook entry, and the modem doesn't exist, it may cause an error to be generated in this category.
A problem exists with dialing your Internet Service Provider (or dial-up networking provider). The communcation device seems to be working properly but could not connect with a modem on the other end of the dial-up connection. You may have dialed the wrong number or the line may be busy.
